Harmony Taos Farm – A Skier’s Home Base in New Mexico
If you’re looking for a central place while skiing anywhere along the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway, Harmony Taos Farm is an excellent option if your rig is under 25 feet. This Hipcamp is only 5 minutes from downtown Taos, 40 minutes to Angel Fire, 50 minutes to Red River, and 35 minutes to Taos.
Harmony Taos Farm sites and amenities
Two sites are available – Mountain View Uno and Mountain View Dos.
I’d recommend Mountain View Uno for a more spacious parking area, the best privacy, and closer proximity to the bathhouse. We also loved our view of Wheeler Peak from Mountain View Uno. We could easily enjoy the sunset through the front windshield of our van.
Also, if you need an electric hookup and can plug into a 110-volt outlet, Mountain View Uno is best. Just ask the host where you can plug in and how to pay the extra fee.
The bathhouse building was more amazing than imagined. Newly built, you walk into a mud room first where you can leave your shoes before entering one of two heated bathrooms. Each is complete with a toilet, sink, and shower.
Showers are not often offered by Hipcamps, so it was a surprise to find that Harmony Taos Farm offers two.
Getting to Harmony Taos Farm
Narrow dirt roads littered with potholes are inevitable. You might even encounter muddy sections on the final stretch to this Hipcamp, which could be intimidating to an inexperienced driver in a two-wheel-drive.
Rough, narrow dirt roads are not uncommon throughout much of Taos. They are not specific to Harmony Taos Farm.
As soon as you venture off of the main highway, there are many unpaved roads. Low-hanging tree branches, other encroaching vegetation, and twisty turns make it a little difficult for oversize vehicles when passing other vehicles, but not undoable.
When you’re taking suggestions from your GPS, pay close attention to where it’s guiding you. I’d stick to main thoroughfares instead of shortcuts through neighborhoods. Or in the case of Harmony Taos Farm, take the straightest path you can find.
Parking at Harmony Taos Farm
Backing up through tight spaces is a requirement at this Hipcamp. You’ll just have to decide if you want to do it on arrival or departure.
I personally preferred backing our van into our camp spot, so it was easy to pull out the next day. If you rig is twenty feet or shorter, you likely shouldn’t have any issues. However, if you’re longer than twenty feet and aren’t a confident driver, this camping location might not be for you.
